 Hickories' pavilion dedicated to Gibson
A pavilion was recently dedicated to Traci Gibson in Hickories Park in Owego.
Gibson survived having breast cancer for five years before she died in 2006. During her battle she formed a non-profit group called Traci’s Hope and helped organize a benefit barbecue at Hickories Park to thank the community for the help her family had received and to raise money for breast cancer survivors in Broome, Tioga and Tompkins counties.
The organization has helped raise thousands of dollars that are donated to people battling cancer, said Gibson’s mother Mary Shiner. "We’re carrying on the way she has asked us to," said Shiner. "We have helped over 100 people in four years."
The fifth annual barbecue will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at Hickories Park.
