On October 6th, Traci Gibson's legacy continued as over 1,000 guests gathered at Hickories Park in Owego to raise money that will directly benefit local families.
More than eight years ago, Traci Gibson was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer. During her battle, Traci also established a fund that would assist local families who were struggling to make ends meet while receiving treatment. Traci lost the battle last year just days before her scheduled fundraising event. And although she was gone, Traci was able to carry the legacy and the event raised close to $50,000.
This year's event was no different as guests gathered from all over the community to support her cause. With October being recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness month, pink was the color of the day as people wore ribbons, hats, and children even released pink balloons into the air. In addition to the fundraising that took place at Hickories Park, Sam's Club presented a donation to Traci's Hope as well as Tioga Opportunities. Hiawatha Motorcycles and A&M Disposal also teamed up this year to sponsor a 60-mile motorcycle ride that finished at the Hickories Park location. With a flag that signified the cause, Traci's Hope, motorcycle enthusiasts filed into the event and filled the already crowded venue. When asked how many motorcycles participated, Don Wheeland from Hiawatha Motorcycles was unsure of the numbers. "There were quite a few," said Don. "I lost count." The ride raised a total of $2,339 which was donated during the event.
Dollars raised support local families that are dealing with cancer in paying for routine expenses such as daycare, mortgage payments, or even groceries. As of October 7th, the event raised over $35,000 and more dollars were still coming in. To learn more about Traci's Hope you can visit her website located at www.tracishope.com. |
