The 11th annual BMW Ultimate Drive made a "pit-stop" in Endicott today. The 11th annual B-M-W Ultimate Drive made a "pit-stop" in Endicott today. As part of a nationwide effort to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer foundation, hundreds of drivers flooded the Endicott dealership to test drive a "beemer."
NewsChannel 34's Sofia Ojeda shows us how even after one local woman loses her own battle to the disease, her hope for a cure is still very much alive.
She was a former Miss Teen New York State says Gordon Shiner, Traci Gibson's father. But you'd never know it, he says---Traci was very humble. Even after she was diagnosed with breast cancer 7 years ago, she never put herself first.
Gordon Shiner, Traci's Father says, "Extraordinary young lady , who fought cancer for seven years, put aside her problems, to help other people."
During her battle, Traci started the "Traci's Hope Foundation." to help those cancer patients pay expenses that most insurance companies won't cover. After many cycles of chemo and radiation therapy, 38 year old Traci Gibson lost her battle to breast cancer last October. But with the help of this year's Ultimate Drive Campaign and the Susan G. Komen foundation, her family says they will keep her memory alive.
Jeremy Krebbeks, BMW General Manager says, "You basically come in, they take your name and number, you take about a 15 minute pre-determined route, nice drive, pretty amazing cars."
For every mile driven, one dollar is donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and this year BMW hopes that enough drivers will come out to beat last year's 7 thousand dollar mark.
When drivers are finished their test spin, they can leave their imprint on a "signature car" in memory of those who died.
Megan Horton, Susan G. Komen Foundation says, "Come down and test drive please, test drive today, tomorrow is the drive from here to Rochester, again every dollar is for breast cancer."
And 75 percent of every dollar stays right here in Broome County. In Endwell, SO, NC 34.
